Anti-Inflammatory Effect on Colitis and Modulation of Microbiota by Fermented Plant Extract Supplementation

Although results of recent studies suggest that fermented foods strongly affect the gut microbiota composition and they relieve inflammatory bowel disease symptoms, some reports have described increase inflammation markers based on differences in food materials. This study evaluated effects plant extract (FPE) dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced colitis mice fecal humans. Mice fed 5% FPE with 3% DSS (FPE group) showed no body weight loss, atrophy colonic length, or bloody stool, similar to a basal diet (negative group), whereas (positive exhibited those effects. Concentrations IL-6 TNF-α were not significantly different between negative groups; however, concentrations became higher positive group. 16S ribosomal RNA gene sequencing was used characterize healthy women before after 3-month supplementation. The supplementation induced increases Firmicutes phyla Clostridiales order, which play central role suppression. These enhances growth it has an anti-inflammatory effect.
